Classroom Manangement

According to teacher Ben Johnson, classroom management boils down to having a structured learning environment  with clear rules that promote learning as well as consequences that diminish or eliminate behaviors that get in the way of learning.   At the moment I do not have a classroom. However, one thing I do with my son is to have a picture that we made a drawing that we made together of our home.  On the extra space of the poster my son and I had come along with some rules that need to be fallow, expectations, consequences with positive reinforcement; his participation helps a lot because he feels that he has been part of the process.  We add new things when I see my son is struggling to follow directions and we take away things that he has shown they are now a good habit o a routine that we may have been working at home, like brush tee, make the bed.  For a classroom, I would fallow the same idea with some steps that ...

Parent-Teacher comunication

Understanding the importance of clear communication with the parents is an essential piece on the puzzle of Education; is paramount in education.  Whether it is a teacher to student, student to student, teacher to teacher, teacher to parent, teacher to administration or administration to parent, communication needs it to make sure students are successful. The best way to avoid misunderstandings with parents and caregivers is to establish clear lines of communication from day one.  The more I share the news about the classroom; by including parents on school activities, they will feel part of the team.  On  Scholastic , I found five steps for successful parent-teacher communication. Begin the year by explaining how and when I will keep in touch with them. Never feel pressured to make an important decision, evaluation, or assessment during a parent conference or conversation. Let the parent know they can trust me. Assure parents that I will info...

Troubleshooting

Thechopedia explains Troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is primarily done to keep a system or software in the desired condition, especially when it encounters or exhibits a problem.  It is a systematic approach done within one or more phases depending on the complexity of a problem.  Typically, the first step involves identifying what the problem is followed by coming up with a solution.  However, there can be more than one reason for the problem, which will require a more complex solution. Individual troubleshooting such a question might test for different solutions to eliminate the problem or fault. Pictures from Kathleena

Assessment

Flubaroo  combine with Google Forms make an excellent tool for teachers.  It helps to read assignments and assessments, gets report and analysis on students performance.  The steps shown below are taking from  http://www.flubaroo.com/home .  Because I'm new on Flubaroo it was essential for me to follow the steps of Flubaroo so I can have a better idea; it seems a straightforward tool to use and will help me for the assessment of students.  However, the traditional way for assessments without technology may apply for some of the students I may have.  I will be working on a Special Education classroom, and each student may have individualizations task that may need to be graded in different ways. Step 1:  Create an assignment   Create a new Google Form If there is an existing Google Spreadsheet, it allows you to recreate associated form by clicking "Tools/ "Create a form" as shown below The other option is going...

Philosophy of Teaching

My personal vision of Special Education is not from many years of experience in teaching; I have not never thought on a school.  My own experiences have inspired me, and they still encourage me to become a teacher.  Gabriela was very quiet, unique in her way and not social at all, she is my oldest sister.  When she got to second grade, her teacher said to my parents “it is a waste of your money, and my time to have your daughter at school, she will never learn to write.”  On that same day, my dad said, “Gabriela will learn to read, and I will teach her.” A few months later Gabriela was reading.  However, her challenges and struggles at school did not end, the lack of teaching strategies, modification and not being diagnosed; Gabriela was not able to finish school. A few years later when Gabriela was around twenty-four years, she got the opportunity to come to North America, she was diagnosed with ADHD.  Finally, Gabriela was able to understand what was h...

Students Tutorials

As a future Educator, I'm focusing my teaching on students with exceptionality.   Voice Thread , is a learning tool for enhancing and engage students in creating, sharing on images, Microsoft PowerPoint, video, audio, files, documents, using a microphone, webcam. Voice Thread,  can provide skills on Literacy to students improving their fluency, to think about the story, main idea. Voice Thread can take reading to the next level; I can see the students narrates the story making different voices for each character on the story, this can be a workgroup or personal while having fun the student's fluency can improve.  Exceptional children can benefit from this tool as well, not just only on reading fluency; they can use Voice Thread for group discussions and share it with the group or the classroom. Math instructions, the students or teacher, can videotape any type of directions and they can go back to the videos.  It gives a lot of room to students, parents...

Global Citizens

The Foundation of Global Citizen gives a clear concept of its meaning.  “The Global Citizen is above all a philanthropist, a friend to all humankind who seeks to help others.  It is the Global Citizen who can make the grand-scale decisions that will shift the world onto a better, more secure and sustainable path.” The Global Goals For Sustainable Development gives 17 Goals that are great to incorporate on a classroom. In the world that we live in, it gets challenging to teach of being a friend to humankind.  The news is full of many different events, events,  that may affect us directly or indirectly.  The decline of humanity has been seen all over the world.  Sadly, our students are taught to hide in different places in the school on the occasion of an intruder. Sheltering Global Citizens will start with me, the teacher. Modeling kindness to the students and everyone in the school and adding a lesson on the  17 ...

Classkick gives the ability to interact with students, as well as adapt instruction to individuals students. Even though, Classkick is excellent to help you with lesson planning also helps to administer the classroom.  An educator can stay on track with the assignment and fee back while the student is on the process of the task. If I run into a problem, I can watch the tutorials that are an offer on for Classkick.  My goal is to work with exceptional students and be able to manage the administrative part of a classroom will give me more time to help my students and be successful in the teaching. Classkick it allows having a connection with Google Classroom, creates a Web Link, some of the sides I can link on are:  Kahhot, Desmos, Google Maps, Sutori, TED, National Geographic Mapmaker, Duolingo, ED puzzle. I can build the classroom climate witch it will help me to know how students will feel.  I believe by understanding how the students think will improve...

Student and Research

We are lkiveing on a technology world, where technology changes every day, and there is a need for Educators to teach technology.  Now a days, teachers as well as students use the internet for essays, stories, presentations and many different thinks.  After, some reading and thinking, there are some goals that it would be essential to include in a  classroom when they are using the internet to find information. The first goal,  will be to make sure the internet is a safe resource for the students. Each student should be aware of some of the safety steps when they are navigating the web.  Like, thinking before posting something, protect their privacy and information, follow the acceptable school rules, not allowing cyberbullying, and give proper credit when using other peoples work, communicate respectfully, use digital tools to talk with people, not about them, and remember that anything posted online is permanent. For the second goal, I will high l...

Classroom Model

The focus on the classroom Model will be on the levels of Kindergarten all the way to Eight grade on Special Education.  The classroom will be incorporating math and writing skills for well-rounded learning; not forgetting to bring the importance of nature in the school where children will be able to take care of a plant through the school year, as well as the therapy dog that will be in the classroom a few times a week. This classroom will have children with exceptionally (ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD), and other students like ELL and honor students.  It will be a classroom with a combination of abilities and skills like increase problem solving, developing independent reading, team players, Global Citizens.  There are no perfect teachers or perfect students; however, with the teamwork of a great team of professionals we can create a lifetime learning foundation to the students and impact the community that we live in.
